Over 60% of Hangzhou Asian Games Badges Made in Badge One

    Release time: 2023-07-10

As the Hangzhou Asian Games approached, sales of officially licensed merchandise continued to rise. Many of the commemorative badges purchased by consumers were likely manufactured by Badge One, one of China’s leading badge manufacturers.

As one of only two manufacturers in China officially appointed to produce badges and non-precious-metal products for the Hangzhou Asian Games, Badge One expected its products to account for more than 60% of the market. The company was operating at full capacity to produce commemorative badges featuring the official emblem, mascots and other Asian Games elements, helping build excitement for the international sporting event.

During a recent visit to the company’s design department, production workshop and packaging facility, reporters observed the complete manufacturing process. Each badge passes through more than 20 stages, including 3D modeling, die casting, electroplating, enamel filling, epoxy coating and assembly. The finished products feature a wide variety of styles—from colorful and eye-catching to elegant, sophisticated and playful.

When a reporter expressed an interest in purchasing some badges for a personal collection, Chen Yong, Head of Design and R&D, explained with a smile:

“We are responsible for manufacturing, but we do not sell the products directly. Under the relevant regulations, only licensed merchandise stores authorized by the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee are permitted to sell these badges to consumers.”

Each badge package carries a unique traceability code, enabling effective quality control and ensuring that every product comes from a verified and trusted source.

In September 2019, following a formal evaluation by the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee, Jinxiang Badge One was officially selected as a manufacturer of badges and non-precious-metal products for the Games, with responsibility for both product design and manufacturing.

Upon receiving the assignment, the company immediately established a dedicated Asian Games badge project team comprising three specialist groups: R&D and design, mold development, and surface finishing. This integrated system enabled the factory to achieve a daily production capacity of up to 100,000 badges.

The company subsequently developed more than 200 Asian Games product designs inspired by key elements such as the official emblem, mascots and torch. The range included commemorative badges, lapel pins and refrigerator magnets, with small-batch trial production conducted before full-scale manufacturing.

Following approval by the Organising Committee, the products were distributed through two primary channels. Some were supplied for official use by the Organising Committee and other event participants, while others were made available to consumers and collectors through authorized retailers.

As the Games drew closer, the company moved fully from product development into large-scale manufacturing. Daily production reached nearly 50,000 badges. Based on market research and demand forecasts provided by its marketing team, Jinxiang Badge One adjusted the production volumes of individual product categories to meet changing market demand at different stages.

The company expected to enter its peak production period for licensed Asian Games merchandise within the following month, when daily output was projected to reach 100,000 badges. Based on this production momentum, the total output value of its Hangzhou Asian Games badge products was expected to reach RMB 100 million.

Producing licensed merchandise for major international sporting events has brought the company not only commercial value but also greater confidence in its continued growth.

“Being selected as one of the official manufacturers for the Hangzhou Asian Games represents strong recognition of our company’s capabilities,” said Chen Jiashu, Chairman of Jinxiang Badge One.

The company has previously participated in badge manufacturing projects for major international events, including the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup. It also produced badges for the 31st FISU World University Games held in Chengdu.

Founded in 1983, Jinxiang Badge One has remained dedicated to the design, development and manufacture of badges, emblems and insignia. The company has produced badge and insignia collections for major national events, including China’s National Day military parades.

Its international manufacturing experience also includes supplying badges, military and police insignia, and uniform emblems to United Nations peacekeeping forces and clients in the military and law-enforcement sectors across more than 30 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Russia. To date, the company has developed and manufactured more than 300 types of badge and insignia products.
