Hangzhou Asian Games – Official Badge & Commemorative Coin Manufacturer

Project Background

From September 23 to October 8, 2023, the 19th Asian Games were held in Hangzhou, China. During the event, badge exchanging became a unique cultural phenomenon — “Want to exchange badges?” became a common social opener. From the West Lake Ten Scenes badges to the mascot “Three Little Ones” badges and Traditional Chinese Festival series badges, a wide variety of themed badges captured widespread attention, with exchanging badges emerging as a trend. Even IOC President Thomas Bach visited the badge exchange center at the Athletes‘ Village, trading one of his Olympic rings badges for a “Lianlian” mascot badge.

At the same time, commemorative coins — as official licensed products with greater collectible value — were equally well-received. Featuring designs of the Games emblem, mascots, and Hangzhou landmarks, these finely crafted coins became highly sought-after souvenirs among athletes, media, and spectators alike.

Our Mission

As one of only two manufacturers authorized to produce Asian Games badges and non-precious metal products nationwide, Badge One (formerly Jinxiang Badge Factory) was entrusted with producing approximately 60% of the event’s badge products and a significant volume of official commemorative coins. The project required:

• Faithful reproduction of official IP, including the Asian Games emblem and mascots “Congcong,” “Lianlian,” and “Chenchen”
• Commemorative coins with high-precision relief details and a metallic finish meeting collectible-grade standards
• Large-scale mass production without compromising quality
• In-house design of merchandise for review and approval by the organizing committee

Our Solution

Upon receiving the task from the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee, Badge One immediately established a dedicated Asian Games task force, setting up multiple teams covering R&D design, material production, and surface finishing.

For Badges: Each Asian Games badge goes through nearly twenty production steps: design, mold building, mold assembly, die-casting, polishing, electroplating, electrophoretic coating, enamel filling, printing, epoxy doming, assembly, and packaging — with quality checks at every stage. To address the challenges of complex shapes, multiple colors, and gradients used in the badges, we set up a dedicated research team to overcome technical hurdles.

For Commemorative Coins: The Asian Games commemorative coins were crafted from high-quality metals such as zinc alloy and copper, formed through precision die-casting, and finished with multi-layer electroplating and polishing to achieve a brilliant metallic sheen. The depth and clarity of the relief were repeatedly refined to ensure every coin met collectible-grade standards. The product line featured dozens of designs — including the Games emblem, mascots, Hangzhou landmarks, and sports disciplines — catering to the diverse preferences of collectors.

Leveraging 43 years of experience in metal crafts and 38 patented technologies, Badge One maintained full control over the entire production chain — from design optimization and tooling development to mass production. In the month leading up to the Games, daily output reached 30,000 to 50,000 pieces, with production running at full capacity.

• Produced approximately 60% of all official Asian Games badge products, adding “Made in Wenzhou” content to the Games
• Product range covered over 200 varieties, including commemorative medals, brooches, bookmarks, fridge magnets, and more
